From poor farm to Balsam Care Society

BRIDGEWATER – Long before it became a modern organization rooted in inclusion and independence, the origins of today’s Balsam Care Society can be traced back to a very different time and philosophy of care. Its earliest foundation lies in the Lunenburg County Poor Farm and Asylum (1889–1980), established to house and support society’s most vulnerable individuals at a time when resources and understanding were limited.
